Police Partisanship, Stops APGA Women From Receiving President

…As Obiano welcomes Buhari to Anambra State

By Cyril Okeke

In a clear display of partisanship the Police deployed to Anambra state today stopped a retinue of Women of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) from escorting the state Governor Chief Willie Obiano as he receives the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari as he visits Anambra state.

Governor Obiano in apparent display of statesmanship and appreciation of the fatherly role of the President is poised to welcome Mr. President warmly even as he remains target of the divisive political campaign rhetoric by members of his party APC. However, the Governors’ advance entourage to welcome the President has been depleted following stopping of APGA the women by the Police.

The Police action immediately attracted condemnation across the political spectrum even amongst members of the APC who also condemned the Police action as high-handed since the women are not threatening anybody but merely out to show solidarity with the President.

Condemnation has already gone beyond those who witnessed the Police action and the ensuing argument, as it has further increased sympathy for Governor Obiano and depleted the ranks supporters of the APC candidate.  Ogbuefi Mike Nzekwe, an APC stakeholder from Nibo who was at the scene had this to say; “I was coming here just to hear what Buhari will say he has done for our people, but what I saw now has made me change my mind. Yesterday, it was withdrawal of security now this. Why can’t they let Anambra remain in peace?”

An Inspector who seem to be the most Senior Officer at the scene refused to answers questions or explanation, but let slip;  “this is APC Rally.”
