3 Robbers Nabbed By Police In Onitsha

Three armed robbers were yesterday arrested by Police in Central Police Station, Onitsha, Anambra state for robbing some people at Egerton  bus stop and two girls at Court road.

The two robbers ware arrested after they robbed some people in  Keke at Egerton bus stop while another robber operating with motorcycle was arrested along Court road in Onitsha.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Central Police Station Onitsha Mr. Ikechukwu Egbochukwu a Superintendent of Ploice (SP) who confirmed their arrests said that they have been handed to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for further investigation and prosecution.

“The true position is that people were in tricycle (Keke) when three boys came to rob them, one of the victims were lucky to grab one robber before a security guard came and arrested him and brought him to our office. It was through him we arrested another one who is helping us to track others”.

Also, “In the morning yesterday at court road two boys with motorcycle robbed two girls of their hand bags and phones when the girls raised alarmed, the robbers were pursued and we arrested one while one jumped out of the motorcycle may be he has a gun but are still trailing him and impounded the motorcycle. We have handed over them over to the SARS for further investigation and possible prosecution”

One of the victims of the robbery Mr. Ugochukwu Nnaji said that the hoodlums numbering about seven attacked him and others as they entered into a Keke and ordered them to hands up which he resisted initially but one of them use bottle and hit him before he surrendered and they collected the N20, 000 he just withdrew from bank and his phone.

His words: “It was about 7.30pm when I came down to Onitsha for business, I had no money with me, I went to bank to withdraw the sum of N20, 000 and crossed the road and entered Keke with others after some time some boys came and I was dragging the Keke rider. So we started asking them what the problem was but we knew what was happening some other boys joined and one of them brought out bottle and hit me and told me to hands-up which I refused and he started beating me and used the broken bottle and stabbed my head”.

As it was going other hoodlums joined them and started beating me and collected the money inside my pocket and my phone. It was one of us inside the Keke that escaped that went and called a security guard, immediately I saw the security man I held the boy that stabbed tightly and he was arrested and all of us came to police station and police went arrested another of the gang” Nnaji stated.
