A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Director-General of Obiano Campaign Organization Chief Victor Umeh asked politicians to stop making inflammatory statement at a time like this.
Umeh while reacting to a media report credited to the APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun where he said his party would take over Anambra State in the November 18 poll.
He called on the people of the State to be vigilant and prepare against any evil plot to subvert their decision on the poll.
He described the statement as reckless, inflammatory, intimidating and undemocratic.
He asked President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that politicians , especially those from APC did not thwart the people’s will during the election .
He said, ” Buhari that ushered in hope to Nigerian democracy should not allow anybody to intimidate any person in Anambra election. Under his watch, we expect a perfect electoral system.
“We don’t want to go into this election with such inflammatory statement as that of Oyegun. That statement is an intimidation to the people of Anambra State.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, and security agencies to be fair to all parties in the contest, in accord to standard best practices.
He said, ” The people’s votes should count. The umpire is responsible for the conduct of elections. So, it’s INEC that will make or mar Anambra poll. So, we ask INEC to be determined, impartial, and fair to everybody in the election.
“The same way, we ask the security agencies to conduct themselves as appropriate so that the people of the state will have a peaceful election.
He said APGA would on Monday formally flag off Governor Willie Obiano’s reelection campaign at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the State capital.
He added,” We’ll make our campaign issue based because APGA has a good market to sell. The success of Anambra is embedded in APGA. Our party has a character that is not found any other place; the character in allowing an elected governor to work without interference.
“We don’t have godfather in APGA and we don’t recognise it. Even our late leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, with his might, did not disturb Mr Peter Obi through out his tenure as APGA governor.
