The President of Ochanja Central Market, Onitsha, Anambra state Chief Nelson Ojukwu (Nwakaibeya) yesterday said that the market is currently mobilizing about 20, 000 traders in the market to vote for Governor Willie Obiano’s reelection in November 18governorship election.
Ojukwu said that Obiano would not lose any vote in Ochanja market because of his achievements in the last four years of his first tenure and needed to be supported to consolidate on his good work in the state.
He noted that some of the advantages on Obiano’s side are that he has no sponsor that will control him if he wins his second tenure election and that he would serve only one more tenure to complete an eight-year turn of Anambra North senatorial zone and vacate the seat for another senatorial zone to take over and above all he has been tested and proved to be a performer within his first tenure of four years now.
The President noted that although some other candidates of other political parties are equally from Anambra North zone, the advantage Obiano has in this regard is that once he completed his second tenure of eight years, it would be assumed that Anambra North zone has taken its full turn but if another person from the same Anambra North wins November 18, 2017 election and takes over the mantle of leadership in 2018, the tendency is that he might go for a second tenure of another four years without minding whose ox is gored, thereby derailing the much agitated zonal arrangement.
Ojukwu emphasized that he personally preferred Obiano to win for the obvious reasons that he performed above expectation, particularly in the area of security which he said affected an average trader in the state because according to him majority of those being kidnapped and robbed during the dark days of the state were mainly traders.
He said that with most other candidates having sponsors and hoping to recoup their campaign expenses to pay back their sponsors, Obiano who do not have any sponsor would settle down and concentrate on developing the state more than others.
He commended Obiano for initiating the N10 million choose-your market project for all the 64 major market unions in the state, including the Ochanja market who channelled the N10 million on German-floor of the first gate of the market, saying that calling on the governor to award the second phase of the project to continue with second, third gates and Secretariat road.
According to him, “Obiano will win the second term bid. We are mobilizing about 20,000 traders from this market alone to vote for Obiano, no vote will be lost from the market. He awarded N10 million project under choose your project which we have completed waiting for the second phase. Apart from that project he sunk borehole at the market and provided streets light at the market among other projects”.
