30 Suspects Paraded In Anambra For Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Cultism

Anambra state Police Command, yesterday paraded 30 suspected  at police headquarters, Awka for alleged cases of armed robbery, kidnapping and cultism.

The State Commissioner of Police Mr. Garba Baba Umar while parading the suspects said that Ebeje (Soldier) was arrested as trainer of armed robbers who robbed Bukachi filling station Eziowelle on August 31, 2017.

He said that other members of the gang responsible for the attacks and killing of policemen at Nipping Points  include Kenneth Chimezie (42), Peter Onyebuchi Ali (26) and Nnaemeka Ugwuokpe (26).

Umar said that the items recovered from them include; 336 rounds of 7.62x39mm AK 47 live ammunitions, 3 empty AK 47 rifle magazines, one locally made double barrel pistol with two live cartridges, IPOB wears (headgear, mini flag, muffler), criminal charms and ATM cards.

He said that on September 6, 2017 following a distress call at Uru village Ogidi where two suspects including Sunday Chigbo (20) and Onyebuchi Eweani  (24) and recovered a locally made cut to size double barrel gun, one live cartridge, clothes and shoes, household equipment and a Sack bag.

“On interrogation it was revealed that the bag which contains cloths p, shoes and house equipment was robbed by them from an unknown. They confessed to the crime, case is under investigation and would be charged to court for prosecution at the end of investigation”.

The CP also stated on September 2, 2017 a group of boys led by one Chukwudi Nwabundo of Isiokwe p, Aguleri and took away one John Ifediora of Umuganagu village to Iyi Oji shrine where he was subjected to tortur, saying that police detective stormed the bush at Aguleri  and successfully rescued the victim. He said that two suspects were arrested on the spot and the third suspect who sustained gunshot injuries was certified dead at the hospital. The other suspects include Obiora Madubueze and Chinaza Udeezue (deceased).

Umar further stated that a group of young men suspected to be cultists wee seen at a scene of initiation at Nnewi, police team from special Anti-cultism cordoned the place and arrested 22 suspected cultists.

He said that exhibits recovered from them include: one locally made revolver pistol with one live ammunition, one locally made pistol gun with 3 live cartridge, one muffler belonging to JVC, one black turban belonging to ARO cult, three black berets belonging to Vikings, two daggers, three short axes and three machetes.

He said that the suspects confessed that the were members of different cult groups and would be charged to court for prosecution, reiterating its readiness of the command to continue partnering with other security agencies and law abiding citizens of the state to eliminate all forms of crimes and criminalities.

The CP further advised parents to take care of their children or wards to reduce Cultism in the society and report to the police or other security agencies of any suspicious movement of their children or other persons promptly in fulfillment of a core civic responsibility
