Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, (APGA) Chief Jerry Obasi, has called on the Ebonyi State government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of former Senator Offia Nwali.at his country home.

Nwali was reportedly found dead  in a pool behind his residence at Ameka Community in Ezza South local government area of Ebonyi state on Saturday May 21, 2016.

In a statement, Obasi who is a former chairman of the party in the state lamented that it is shocking that the Ebonyi state government has not considered it necessary to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of one of the founding fathers of the state.

“This is four months since Senator Offia Nwali’s death; it is regrettable that the Ebonyi state government under Gov. Dave Umahi has not deemed it necessary to make efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident in a pond behind his house. Though he is yet to be buried, there is a great need to unravel the circumstances of his death. Gov. Dave Umahi owes Ebonyi people a sacred duty to unravel how Senator Offia Nwali died in such mysterious circumstances behind his residence. This is somebody who contributed immensely to the creation of Ebonyi state. Senator Offia Nwali should not be treated in such a degrading manner. He deserve to be honoured even in death.”

He described Nwali as a nationalist, seasoned politician, administrator, scholar as well as a community leader who lived for the people, adding that the late Senator will be remembered for his simplicity, political sagacity as well as his invaluable contributions to the development of Ebonyi and Nigeria.
