The much enjoyed peace in Ukwu-Nzu community, Aniocha North local government Area, Delta State was shattered at the weekend when two of Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa’s stooges, the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development Mr. Dan Okenyi and the Senior Special Adviser to the governor without portfolio, Mr. Emma Ebo stormed the community and caused mayhem.
The duo under the directives of their principals went to the relatively peaceful community with two trucks loaded with heavily armed policemen and disrupted the meeting of the town development Union over compensation from investors.
This is coming on the heels of the discovery of Kaolin, Lignite and other mineral resources in the community with the capacity to boost revenue, develop the community especially at this time of economic recession bedevilling the country.
It was reliably gathered that the police went on rampage, molesting and bullying those suspected to have been working against the wicked and selfish interest of Governor Okowa’s aids.
Investigations revealed that the discussion at the meeting has reached the stage for compensation from the investors before the greed and interference of the state government in the payment to the community, using the two illustrious sons to undermine the genuine efforts of the community.
“If not properly handled now, may snowball into an unimaginable crisis that may hamper the development of the community and consequently tear the state government apart”, some persons who spoke with 247ureports.com under condition lamented.
Checks reveals that the community is already embroiled in cold war as there is apprehension and tussle on who controls the huge deposits of the Solid Minerals in the community.
Just as the discovery of oil has been a curse to the country especially the Niger Delta region, the exploration of these vital resources which ought to bring joy to the community has turn to a soured situation.
The youth who gathered themselves in clusters at the heart of the town were vociferous in expressing their displeasure over what they described as ‘pitiful situation’ on the part of Governor Okowa for allowing his aids to fight dirty over God’s given gift.
“Has governor Okowa deployed Dan Okenyi from the ministry of Lands as an SA on Solid Minerals? Why are they interested in Ukwu-Nzu now, after the community has suffered neglect from them? Do they think we are not aware how they share the ecological fund approved by the federal government to tackle the ecological problem facing the community?” The youth asked.
The youth called on Okowa to call his aids to order and leave Ukwu-Nzu alone, saying that no amount of intimidation would deterred them from their right.
Efforts made to reach the Commissioner for Lands, Dan Okenyi and Emma Ebo failed as they did not pick calls made to their cell phones.
