The Abuja high court seating at court room 24 granted bail to the accused Reverend Father of the Holy Assumpta church in Asokoro, Abuja.
The bail came after the defendant’s lawyer (Agabi) argued vehemently for bail. The prosecuting team of lawyers representing the police did not object to the bail argument.
The Reverend Father had been charged for sexual assault on a 10-year old girl on August 15, 2016. He was previously arraigned at a Magistrate Court but was transferred due to lack of jurisdiction.
In granting the bail, the Judge set the conditions of bail N20million with two shorties who must be public servants at the minimum level of Director. The two must be residents of Abuja. Their residence must be verifiable and they must sign an affidavits of income.
The Judge continued that the Reverend Father will be held at Kuje prisons custody until he makes bail.
The case file was then transferred to another court to continue after the courts return from recess.
Meanwhile, information available to 247ureports.com reveals that the Reverend Father [Anthony Ochigbo] may have been set up following his refusal to bow to the caprices of some powerful politicians in Abuja. According to the information gathered, the Reverend Father had dissolved some boards which the former Governor of Benue State, Chief Akume did not want dissolved.
Following his decision to dissolve the boards, the Reverend Father became the target of the Akume group who were determined to route the Rev. Fr. out of the Church parish.
According to the allegation, a woman had come to the Father’s residence with three of her children – and without prior warning – she abandoned the children at the residence of the Father. She did not return to the residence for her children till the following morning.
When she collected her children, she claimed to have inspected her 10 year old daughter. Upon her independent examination, she claimed she discovered that her daughter may have been sexually abused.
She then went to the police to report. And the Reverend was arrested and has been in prison custody ever since.
