Ahead of the submission of the outcome of the governorship election appeal committee set up by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the Ondo state governorship election primaries, the panel is currently swimming in bribery allegation so as to cancel the poll.
It was gathered from a top member of the APC national executive that Mrs. Helen Bendega-led Appeal Committee is accused of a plot to tamper with the result of the primary election and ultimately undermine the result of election, which produced a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN).
The source said: “This development is very disturbing. We (NWC) have received reports on the alleged activities of the Election Appeal Committee. Any official Party position on the allegations will be pre-emptive and judgemental.
“We are already conducting a discreet in-house probe so that NWC is properly guided when we receive the report of the Appeal Committee. Even though our preliminary reports suggest that the September 3, 2016 Ondo state governorship election primaries conducted by the Jigawa State Governor, Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar-led five member committee was very transparent and credible, we await the report of our Appeal Committee.”
Recall that Akeredolu emerged winner after polling 669 votes to defeat his closest rival and the candidate believed to be the choice of the Party’s national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Olusegun Abraham, who scored 635 votes.
Others are Olusola Oke polled 576, Senator Robert Borrofice, 471; Tayo Alasoadura, 206; Bode Ayorinde, 67; Jumoke Ajasin-Anifowose, 1; Tunji Abayomi, 5; Jamiu Afolabi, 44; Adefemi Mayowa, 13; Ayo Akinyelure, 3; Adekunle Adekunle, 8; Adegbonmire Adebiyi, 8; Olabimtan Victor, 18; Tunji Ariyomo, 2; and Oyewunmi Taiwo, 7.
Some of the defeated aspirants led by Segun Abraham, and 23 others are, however, demanding the cancelation of the result of the primaries alleging irregularities in the primaries.
