Avengers: Delta Women, Students Give 7-days Ultimatum To Buhari

Following the continued detention of 10 students of Gbaran Grammar Secondary School, Gbaramatu kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State by the army who invaded the fishing town, women of the kingdom has vowed marched through the streets against the Federal Government-led by President Mohammadu Buhari.

The youths which the women say are students were labelled as members of the rampaging Niger Delta Avengers, who are busy destroying oil and gas pipelines in Delta State and parts of the Niger Delta region.

The woman leader of the community, Matthew Mumu lamented that the arrested students by the military was carried out in a major operation to crackdown on militants’ activities in riverside communities.

The women expressed fear that the youths may have been killed by the military reportedly arrested about 46 days ago.

They have given President Muhammadu Buhari one week ultimatum to release them as they have spent 46 days in the custody of the soldiers and have been kept incommunicado.

The women, predominantly mothers of the arrested students who have been denied sitting for their WAEC and NECO exams, marched through The NPA axis of the busy Warri/Sapele road.

They were dressed in black attires and armed with placards, denouncing the continued detention of the boys whose whereabouts has been kept away from their parents and guardian.

The women were accompanied by members of the Association of Gbaramatu Students, who also appealed to Buhari to immediately effect the release of the teenagers whom they said were not members of the NDA.

A student, Agbadakri Precious said, “we the student are not really happy with the issues going around. It gives us heart break every day. We thought we could not sit for our paper yesterday but by the grace of God we were able to sit for it. We are pleading with the federal government to give us the peace that we deserve as students of Gbaran Grammar School. Let Buhari take out the army from our land, we want peace and freedom, we are humans, we have right to life and liberty”, she said.
