5-Man Gang In Gun Fire Duel With SARS, Several Dead

It was red day for the men of the underworld and  bomber harvest for the men of Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS),Anambra State Command as 5-man-gang fell to the superior rifles of the anti-robbery men during a gun dual with the armed bandits.

Handing down the account on how it happened to newsmen in SARS headquarters  Awukuzu, Anambra state,  the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSC Ali Okechukwu said their counterpart in Delta State had on July 18, 2016 at about 1700hrs arrested and handed over a most wanted armed robber, popularly known as OBOSIMA to SARS Anambra state and on interrogation, the kingpin confessed to series of armed robbery/car snatching incidents within and outside Anambra State.

According to the PPRO, the armed bandit opted and led SARS operatives to Asaba, Delta State for possible arrest of their members and recovery of their operational weapons.

On getting to Asaba, it was gathered that along Nnebusi road/Zenith Bank Asaba, SARS operatives were attacked by the armed gang.

In the process, one Chuma Anyichie and unidentified female gang member was arrested with severe bullet injuries but died few minutes later  at the scene.

Items recovered from the gang include: One AK47 rifle, two AK47 magazines. 24 rounds of live ammunition, One pump action gun. Others are One machete, 5  expended cartridges, One Toyota 4 runner Jeep, One Pathfinder Nissan jeep, One Toyota Sienna without registration number and charms.

It was also gathered that the kingpin and one of the SARS operative who sustained degrees of bullet injuries are receiving treatment in one of the hospitals in the state.

Similarly, on the same July  18, at about 1900hrs, operatives of the anti-robbery warlords, while on patrol, along Amawbia/Nibo road Nibo, Awka South Council Area, ran into a-five-man gang of armed robbers who were robbing unsuspecting victims of their cash and valuables. On sighting the men of SARS, the hoodlums opened fire in a bid to escape. The children of darkness, according to the police image-maker were chased and three were re-arrested with bullet wounds but before medical attention could be administered on them, they gave up the ghost.

Items recovered at the scene include: three locally made short guns, assorted handsets and weeds suspected to be Marijuana. Effort, it was gathered, is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.

Calling on the members of the public to always assist the police with useful information, the police spokesman said the  state police command is ever determined  to fight criminality in the state   towards maintaining the number one safest state in Nigeria.
