In preparation for the 2019 presidential election, former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has begun what sources called lobby among the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) even as he visited the national chairman of the party at the national secretariat yesterday.
Atiku, who entered the national secretariat of APC around 12:50 unannounced yesterday in the company of Adamawa state governor Muhammad Bindow Jibrila, walked straight to the office of the national chairman, John Oyegun.
Both the Oyegun and his visitor were however, locked in a closed door meeting for about 20 minutes before the they allowed other national officers into the meeting.
Atiku, who has not visited the APC secretariat since president Buhari was inauguration in May 29, 2015, yesterday came in full force with his media team but, however, prevented by two NWC members not to talk to the press.
When newsmen sought to know why the sudden visit, it was gathered that Atiku actually came to familiarise himself with the party leaders ahead the party’s presidential primary in 2019.
It was also gathered that Oyegun led NWC might have agreed to support Atiku since all the governors loyal to the national leader of the party Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had withdrawn their support for the running of the party
The former vice president had been under severe attacks by some APC leaders and the presidency since he called for the restructuring of Nigeria and the statement credited to him that President Buhari refused to learn from the past administration.
