The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has pledged its “total allegiance” to the Niger Delta Avengers, a new militant group operating in the oil-rich region of Southern Nigeria.

It was gathered that MASSOB made this disclosure on Saturday, June 4, 2016 along with along with other pro-Biafra groups operating in the South East region.

The Niger Delta Avengers is a militant group calling for a free Niger Delta Republic and is waging a campaign against oil production in Nigeria.

MASSOB Statement of Allegiance

Along with pledging allegiance to the militants, MASSOB is also demanding the unconditional release of pro-Biafra activist, Nnamdi Kanu who is also the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB.

In a statement signed by the national leader of MASSOB, Comrade Uchenna Madu, the movement is glad that the Delta Avengers have shown consistent support for actualizing Biafra.

“The consistency, selflessness and pragmatism of these Biafra warriors gladdens our hearts,” Madu said. “It shows and proves the positivity and acceptability of Biafra by our brethren across the Niger.

“It also rubbished the earlier diversionary, cowardice, stupid and negative comments, statements and positions of some leaders of ethnic nationalities of the South-south who are being brainwashed by Hausa Fulani Yoruba oligarchies against Biafra.

“The activities of the current warriors in the Niger Delta is a natural confirmation that Biafra stretches towards the gulf of Guinea. The natural inhabitants and indigenous people of these lands are Biafrans by birth but Nigeria by citizens.”

Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, is a pro-Biafra secessionist group that embraces the tenets of nonviolence. It is led by Ralph Uwazuruike, a lawyer.

The militants said they are waging a war for a free Niger Delta Republic in what it tags, Operation Red Economy, with a view of halting crude oil production in Nigeria to force the government to grant the group’s demands.

The militant group has released its rules of engagement and says that it doesn’t kill anybody or attack oil workers or soldiers. The Delta Avengers called on all other groups operating in the region to abide by these rules of engagement. “We need God now, more than ever,” the group said in a statement.

The Niger Delta Avengers has presented an 11-point demand to President Muhammadu Buhari and the first is the implementation of the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference.
