The media war that greeted the Delta State governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa’s maiden press chat has not been swept under the carpet by members of the fourth estate of the realm, yet there seemed to be another looming battle between journalists in the state and Okowa’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu.
The sin of the CPS this time was his refusal to call journalists to cover the South-south governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who met in Asaba, on Sunday to chat a way forward on the insecurity facing their states especially on the menace of Fulani Herdsmen ravaging parts of their states, the recent pipeline vandal by militia group and the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State.
Journalists who expressed their displeasure said, “Okowa don’t have good media men at all, a programme of this nature, the CPS just hand-picked reporters that he likes to cover a national event”.
“Okowa should remove this man before he drags him down, with this kind of I know it attitude he brought from Abuja, and unless the governor sacks him he will have a bad image from the media”.
According to them, “when Uduaghan was here as the governor, Ogefere handled the press with dignity. Uduaghan’s CPS will ensure that he sends message to all journalists for a better media coverage. This Okowa’s CPS is proving to be an Island of knowledge”.
They called on governor Okowa to immediately call his spokesperson to order or sack him before he suffers ill-fated reports from the media who are supposed to make him.
