Notwithstanding exparte order by National Industrial Court restraining organize labour from embarking on nationwide strike over the hike in pump price of petrol, workers in Enugu Wednesday, embarked on a partial strike.
Checks shows that while some offices were open for business, some have closed shop.
Already, Radio Nigeria, Enugu and NTA started offering skeletal service with the management staff while other staff were on strike.
A staff of Radio Nigeria who preferred anonymity said that they were on strike.
“We are on strike. We are only offering skeletal service,” he said.
Workers at the Federal Secretariat were busy working when our reporter visited but some workers said that from today, Thursday, they will go on strike because a secular has been pasted to that effect.
At the Enugu State workers secretariat, workers were at their duty posts and schools were in session.
At the Enugu state teaching hospital, Parklane workers couldn’t open offices until about noon with hope that from tomorrow there would be total strike.
However, officials of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, were seen on vehicles going from place to place to ensure that workers complied to the strike order.
Ironically, while the NLC officials were busy calling people out for strike, the Trade Union Congress, TUC, leaders have frowned at the strike and have asked workers not to observe the strike because negotiation was going on to resolve the matter.
A release signed by the Chairman, Comrade Chukwuma Igbokwe and Comrade Benneth Asogwa, Secretary, urged workers against the strike.
“The TUC leadership Enugu State Council has directed all workers under the affiliate unions of the Congress to go on discharging their routine duties, the release indicates.
