From Nweke Nweke Awka
Following the alleged attack on two policemen, (Corporals Obiako Ugochukwu and Chike Raphael) attached with Divisional Crime Office of the Okpoko Police Division, Anambra State Command, by the hoodlums hiding under the platform of Movement for the Actualization for the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), a human rights legal luminary, Barrister S.O Abuchi has urged the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase to arrest and prosecute one Callistus Uchenwoke and other members of his family for having failed to bring up their son, (late Nonso Uchenwoke) in the way the late man should have been useful to his family and Nigeria by extension.
Stating that he was shocked to learnt that a suspect, at this computer age could prefer inviting hoodlums to attack and injured policemen on official duty rather than submitting himself to police arrest, the man at bar was of the view that the police authorities should protect their men with relevant laws guiding the functions of the Nigeria Police Force rather than paying less concern in matters of this magnitude.
It would be recalled that one Corporal Ada Ekwueme also serving at Okpoko Police Division had officially reported a case of assault and malicious damage against the deceased but when the two policemen went to arrest the suspect, he allegedly pleaded with the policemen to allow him make a phone call.
Available information had it that instead of calling his relation(s) to intervene in the matter, late Nonso Uchenwoke was said to have invited hoodlums suspected to be close with him and on their arrival, they swooped on the policemen like wounded lion, filtering degrees of injuries on them in attempt to give their colleague a way to escape.
Emphasizing that arrest and prosecution of the family of the deceased (Nonso Uchenwoke) would serve as a deterrent to other parents who see nothing good in bringing up their children in a better way as parents who could not bring up their child morally and responsibly are worst than an infidel, the lawyer who doubles as a clergy in the Alter of God, revealed that the petition allegedly sent to the Inspector General of Police via the Civil Liberty Organization (CLO) aimed at punishing officers that exhibited their legitimate duty by going to arrest a suspect would demoralize other police officers.
He called on the IGP to dispose the petition of the family and that of the CLO into the waste basket of the police, while efforts should be intensify to arrest all the culprits involved in the barbaric act.
