Feelers reaching us indicates that the Delta State government has concluded plans for the state Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Mr. Mofe Pirah, the Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs, Kelly Penaowu and Special Adviser on Petroleum Matters, Bosin Ebikeme to storm the creek over the renewed attacks on pipelines by the Niger Delta Avengers.
An Advocacy Committee set up by Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, it was gathered would visit the region Tuesday to end the on-going attacks on oil installations in the state by militants.
It was reliably learnt that the committee may hold a meeting Monday and thereafter, meet separately with the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli I and other royal fathers to brief them on its mandate and seek their support.
Impeccable sources said that the directive of Governor Okowa was that the committee members should remain in the creeks until the problem was resolved.
The sources said members of the committee would not come back to Warri or Asaba as soon as they enter into the creeks, stressing that they would remain there until they finish the assignment given to them by the state.
According to our sources they would also go round the communities to talk to the people and their leaders and they would meet with different groups to find solution to the crisis.
It was still sketchy if the committee would meet with the traditional ruler of Gbaramatu Kingdom, HRM Oboro-Gbaraun II, Aketekpe, Agadaba and other leaders from Tuesday.
It would be recall that Okowa who expressed worries over the incessant attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta Region, particularly in Gbaramatu, Warri South West of the state pleaded with the Niger Delta Avengers, a new militant group whose activities has attracted the Mohammadu Buhari-led federal government to the region to sheath their sword.
“I want to plead with us that in our various communities, we should appeal to our brothers and sisters who are still attacking oil facilities. It isn’t good because the oil prices are down and it is a double challenge for us. I plead with us to please talk with our brothers, our various sons and daughters in the communities that there is a need to embrace peace, to be patient with us as a state and even with the federal government because we need the cooperation of all for us to have a success story”.
