Hundreds of Protesters under the aegis of Concerned Legal Practitioners of Ado, Okpokwu and Ogbadibo from Benue State on Thursday, April 14 stormed the National Assembly complex demanding that a Christian Adabah Abba be sworn in as the member representing the aforementioned in the House of Representatives.
Hassan Saleh is currently the member representing the constituency in the House.
It was gathered that the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara has not sworn in Abba because Saleh has appealed a High Court Judgement which ruled in the favour of Abba.
Addressing journalists on behalf of the the group, it’s leader, Ochene Sunday alleged that there is a conspiracy going on in the lower chamber.
Sunday while stating that Abba has already been presented with certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC said that the basis for Saleh to continue to be in the House has been set aside by a High Court Judgement.
“There is a judgement setting aside the Federal High Court Judgement that the House of Representatives based their swearing of Hassan Saleh.
“We got a judgement duly and communicated the National Assembly particularly the Speaker of the House of Representatives. INEC has issued a certificate of return to Christian Adabah Abba and we are requesting that Christian Adabah Abba be sworn in as member representing Ado, Okpokwu and Ogbadibo Federal Constituency.
“We were surprised that till date that this judgement was given by the court of Appeal we have copies of them here you can verify it, it was given on the 8th of February, 2016.
“Today is 14 of April Christian Adabah Abba has not been sworn in as member representing Ado, Okpokwu and Ogbadibo Federal Constituency.
“You know this is a government talking about change, they don’t want corruption, corruption does not alone mean stealing money, it means when you have a system on ground that you manipulating, what you are supposed do is corruption.
“We want to know the conspiracy in the House of Representatives here. We wrote several letters to the Speaker, we wrote to the leader of the National Assembly that is the leader of the Senate we have no response.
So we are here today to get the response why Christian Adabah Abba has not been sworn in. We will continue with our struggle no matter what, “he added.
