Harmonized All Progressives Congress Peoples With Disability Support Group (APC-PWD) on Friday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the appointments of PWD into government agencies and parastatal at both the Federal and State levels.
The group in a press conference organised by at the national Secretariat in Abuja, with support from the International Republican Institute (IRI), which the National Coordinator, APC-PWD Support Group Misbau Lawan Didi addressed, however, commended the President for appointing Dr. Sam Ankeli ( a visually impaired) as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Disabilities matters as well as appointing malam Garba Shehu (Physically challenged) as Special Assistant on disability matters.
Lawan said “we wish to appeal to the party leadership to consider the adoption of member of this committee (APC-PWD Supprt Group) into the party’s leadership structure on the interim to facilitate the process of the emergence of PWD leadership at all levels in subsequent congresses and convention as enshrined in the party Constitution.
The group also praised state governors who have appointed Special Assistant on Disabilities in their respective state as well as calling on others who are yet to do that to prioritize consideration of appointing same to facilitate the effective mobilization of PWDs in their states.
“We wish to appeal to the party leadership to consider the adoption of members of this Committee (APC-PWD Support Group) into the party’s leadership structure on the interim to facilitate the process of the emergence of PWD leadership at all levels in subsequent congresses and convention as enshrined in the party Constitution.
“We also call on the media and indeed the general public to support activities and initiatives of the government aimed at increasing the participation of PWDs in governance for their effective integration into the society.
