Loading ...The on-going reconciliation of aggrieved members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA), especially in Anambra state may have run into a hitch with the other political interests wooing the Chief Maxi Okwu faction of the party.
Top on the list, according to the resolution from the faction’s emergency enlarged State Executive Committee meeting held in Awka yesterday, the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) and the new evolving People’s Mega Party(PMP) were among the top contenders for their love and affection.
Addressing the faction, the state chairman, Chief Shedrack Anakwue noted with dismay that the Chief Maja Umeh reconciliation panel set up by Gov Willie Obiano has “deviated from due process as earlier agreed. They have refused to approach our group as one body but have chosen to break our ranks with divide-and-rule method.
“That it was to get the best of issues and our due that we considered before directing our members to jettison selfishness and allow the leaders to negotiate as a team. Where we, for example, would insist on 40/50% of all appointive and party positions and get it, but no one individual would get up to that at all.
“The Maja Umeh committee, we learnt has been going round the twenty-one councils in the state meeting our members one by one. This is not acceptable to us at all. We had at the on-set counseled that any meeting with us should start with our national chairman with his executive, as well as the state excos who would give the position and direction of the group.
“But instead they chose to break our ranks by going after our members one by one and in their various wards. Such has been unambiguously stated as unacceptable to us. We have options and cannot continue to be taken for a ride for long…”, Anakwue stressed.
The group also resolved that besides APGA, other interest groups that approach them would be considered favorably. Such political camps that have so far shown such interest includes the immediate past governor, Chief Peter Obi, and the new “mega” party.
Anakwue disclosed that some of their members led by Chief Chike Obidigbo have already moved over to the new political party, but observed also that some who left had returned.
He said the meeting which was a follow-up to the earlier one held last month at the behest of Okwu was to take stock and census of their membership in anticipation of their next political line of action. Again, to show that they command substantial followership.
The state chairman, during a question-and-answer session reiterated their respect and high regards for Obiano, but emphasized that other options were on the card, saying that Obi is like our father, while Obiano is our own brother, so symbiotically we have stake in both. However, if Obi come to us as a father, we will oblige him.
The group noted that the rumblings within the political circle in the state has unleashed new consciousness and respect on the political actors.
