A father of two who hails from Orba in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s country, recently escaped suicide attempt.
The young man whose name was simply given as Toochuchwu, it was gathered last Monday went into his one room apartment at Akwuke, Enugu and tied himself to the ceiling and would have given up the ghost when his young wife walked in and raised the alarm that brought help and he was rushed to the hospital where he was resuscitated.
Toochukwu, a patent medicine dealer, it was also gathered, went to his shop on that fateful day in the morning only to come back later to carry out the failed suicide attempt when most tenants had left for work.
It was gathered that the young man’s wife recently gave birth to a baby boy who was sick and the wife took him to the hospital for inoculation only to come back to find her husband dangling from the ceiling in their room.
When 247ureports.com visited the scene of the incident on Saturday, the young man who spent three days in the hospital narrated his story.
He said that he was hale and hearty until Sunday February 7, 2016 when they took their child to the Anglican Church for dedication.
It was at the dedication service that a man of God prophesied to him that someone had taken his name to a native doctor in order to kill him and they prayed for him to avert the danger.
According to him, after the child dedication church service, he never got himself again pointing out that his strength began to fail gradually to the extent that when he went to his medicine shop on Monday, he was not himself and never knew what he was doing again until he found himself in the hospital when he regained consciousness.
Toochukwu said that he believed he was under a spell because he had no reason to take his own life when he was full of life and had good plans for future.
“I believe I was under a spell. How can I think of committing suicide when I was even trying to expand my business. I had quarrel with someone who threatened to deal with me in the yard and there is a land issue in the village, so I don’t know where the problem came from but one thing I know is that I was under a spell,” he said.
Before the fateful day, he said that his mother had been having terrible nightmares where a corpse was brought to her and they have since been praying.
The land lady of the compound told 247ureports.com that they are happy that what would have brought bad name to their yard has been averted saying that if not for the timely intervention of his wife, it would have been a different story.
Some people who spoke to reporter on the incident said Toochukwu was a nice young man who is friendly with everybody and could not believe their eyes when they had that he attempted suicide.
