A Nigerian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in the United Kingdom, People United to Save Democracy (PUSD), has recommended the immediate past chairman of tetfund, Dr. Musa Babayo (Talban Katagum) to President Muhammadu Buhari for what they described as one of the most reliable, focused and determined politicians that can serve Nigerians with commitment, little supervision and passion while protecting their respective reputations and integrity.
In an emailed statement signed by Abdullahi Dauda to 247ureports, it was stated that Dr. Musa Babayo as chairman of Education Trust Fund (ETF) and later Tetfund, was instrumental to the development of education most especially in tertiary institutions through prudent management of limited resources and effective leadership style that became a source of pride to Nigerians in the United Kingdom and other places.
The statement said that although Babayo was a politician of the PDP extraction, he never allowed political difference to becloud the patriotism in him in serving Nigeria across party or regional divide.
“Most of the tertiary institutions in the country were beneficiaries of his leadership including states-owned institutions in opposition parties. He was a leader that led by example to attract any sincere and committed administration to desire him
“The Buhari administration has assembled some tested committed patriots the likes of Rotimi Ameachi, Lai Muhammed, Solomon Dalung, Kemi Adeosun, Chris Ngige, Adamu Adamu and few others that need to include the likes of Dr. Musa Babayo for optimum results. As we speak in the United Kingdom, we are beneficiaries of Dr. Musa Babayo’s leadership while in tetfund. The institutions we attended were fully developed to any standard in the world. It was when we arrived here in the UK to further our studies that we realized the commendable role played by tetfund in developing tertiary institutions under Dr. Babayo in our country. Some of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions are far better in structures and facilities than some institutions in the UK. We have visited several tertiary institutions in the UK, we compared their facilities with those we left at home and realized the efforts made in developing education in Nigeria. We have to appreciate the leadership quality of those who provided us a conducive, environment for learning in Nigeria”, he said
The statement called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC to disconnect Dr. Musa Babayo from the PDP if he still maintains its membership to join the bandwagon in serving Nigeria in whichever capacity the government deems fit, saying that, “Such determined personalities should not be left to rot for any myopic reason. Nigerians need them to contribute to its development. The President should bring such personalities on board to serve in his administration for good dividends. PDP and other parties have very credible personalities that can add value to the change mantra if brought on board”.
Meanwhile the NGO said in the statement that it is concluding arrangements to launch a 600-page documentary book on the stewardship of Dr. Musa Babayo in tetfund in Abuja to serve as a reference document to others in leadership positions.
