The Enugu State Police Command yesterday arraigned Enugu State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mr. Ngozika Louis Delibe before an Enugu State Magistrate Court in Enugu North Magisterial District for alleged assault occasioning harm, threat to life and malicious damage.
Mr Delibe is facing three counts charge boarding on assault occasioning harm, threat to life and malicious damage against the Vice President of NUJ zone C, Comr. Christopher Isiguzo.
The court had on 11th of January, 2016 issued warrant of arrest for disregarding the court after willfully signed and collected arraignment notice from the police on the 9th of January.
When the three count charges where read to his understanding, Delibe pleaded not guilty to the counts.
His Counsel Richard Emeka Ogbodo asked the court to grant his client bail but was opposed by the police prosecutor drawing the attention of the court that the accused will jump bail.
The prosecutor C. O Ugwu reminded the court that the accused person evaded arraignment in two consecutive time prompting the court issuing his warrant of arrest.
The prosecutor who opposed the application for his bail told the court that the accused mindful that this matter is before the court, he has continued to threaten the complainant with text messages.
The Chief Magistrate, J. L C Okibe warned Dilibe to be mindful of actions and granted him bail.
His bail conditions include that he should deposit N50,000 with and one surety in like-sum with his identity card and two passports photograph deposited in the court.
The charge No. MEN/07c/2016 reads, “that you Dilibe Louis Ngozika ‘m’ on 5th day of January, 2016 at about 18:15hrs, at No.2 Edinburgh street, Ogui New Layout Enugu in the Enugu North Magisterial District did assault one Comrade Christopher Isiguzo ‘m’ by given him a fist blow all over his body and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 252 of the criminal code Cap 30 vol. II revised law of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004.
“That you Dilibe Louis Ngozika that on same date and time and in the aforesaid Magisterial District did violently threatened the life of one Comr. Christopher Isiguzo with a sword and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 120 of the criminal code Cap 30 vol. II revised law of Enugu state of Nigeria 2004.
“That you Dilibe Louis Ngozika that on same date and time and in the aforesaid Magisterial District did maliciously tore cloth valued Eighteen thousand naira (N18,000.00) property of one Comr. Christopher Isiguzo with a sword and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 415 of the criminal code Cap 30 vol. II revised law of Enugu state of Nigeria 2004.”
The court has adjourned to 15, 18 and 25th February, 2016 for hearing.
