247ureports.com can authoritatively reveal that the Government of Nasarawa state may have diverted funds meant for security for its private use. According to available information, the Al Makura administration had indicated that it was spending the sum of N20m monthly for the maintenance of police surveillance chopper allocated to patrol the North-Central states embattled by communal crisis – comprising of Nasarawa, Jos, Kogi, Kwara, Federal Capital Territory (Abuja) and Benue states.
A government source told 247ureports.com that the spent amount is due to the frequent cruising/usage of the choppers above skies of the crisis-ridden states. A police source confirmed what the government source said – while adding that Nasarawa state was chosen as the helipad of the police chopper.
But the government source revealed that the large sum of money allocated to the chopper operation has yet to yield expected results. “Despite the presence of the chopper, communal violence remained unabated.”
As at press time, an unconfirmed governmental source revealed that the state Deputy Governor, Silas Ali Agara in the company of the state police commissioner and other heads of security agencies were prevented by Fulani gunmen from landing at the Odeni Magaji helipad – due to activities by Fulani gunmen. The herdsmen were firing sporadic gunshots into the air.
The Police Public Relation Officer, Ismaila Numan declined comment on the attack. “I’m not in picture of what happened”.
