Confusion is currently written on the faces of members of the All Progressives Congress, APC as they wait endlessly for the Primary election of the party to select its candidate for the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone.
Senator Mrs Uche Ekwunife and Barr Mrs Sharon Ikeazor have been pitched against each other over who clinches the ticket of the party.
Members of the party who trooped out to witness the election since very early in the morning have become disenchanted that no one has come out to address them, or state whether the election will hold or not, while the leadership of the party in the state are also feigning ignorance as to what the true situation is.
Our correspondent gathered that the three man committee from the national headquarters of the party who are in the state to conduct the election had whispered to some party leaders that they were in the state to harmonise and affirm Mrs ikeazor as the candidate of the party.
This had also filtered into the ears of most of the members of the party, and especially the state leadership who objected, asking that a primary election be conducted for the two aspirants, citing a recent press release it sent out, which stated that the party was ready to give fair playing field to all aspirants.
But, interestingly, supporters of both Ekwunife and Ikeazor have insisted that a primary election be conducted, exuding confidence that their aspirants will win the election on fair grounds.
As at the time of filling this report, it was still not clear if the election will still hold, nor are there any indication that it will be put off.
National officers of the party who were drafted to conduct the election have since left the venue of the election, following refusal by members of the party in the state to accept the affirmation of Barr Ikeazor.
Some members of the party who spoke to our correspondent were disenchanted with the method of operation of the APC national officer who came to conduct the election, saying that they have not in anyway appreciated the people of the state who trooped out to participate in the election.
They stated that they are even more worried that at 6pm, none of them have deemed it fit to address party members on what decision they are taking.
Hon Elias Onyeagu, former chairman of Dunukofia chapter of APC said that APC must beware as imposition of candidate was the reason PDP has lost steam, and that if imposition is truly the reason for their traveling down to Awka from Abuja, then the party has started dying.
