Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for the forthcoming senatorial election in Anambra Senatorial has said that he is not going to the senate to make money or fight for juicy positions when he wins.
Umeh was speaking in a radio programme on Rhythm FM, Awka, titled View point, which was also monitored by our correspondent when he said that his interest in the senate was to ensure that Igbos are well represented in the country, and that is the reason why he will go for senate committee on federal character.
The former APGA national chairman said that only that committee will help him to look into the equitably positionms in the country are shared, including the creation of states, even though it is seen as not being a juicy committee.
He added that there is a conspiracy to stop him from going to the senate because a particular woman who has interest in the position has gone to Abuja to blackmail him, telling them that if there let him come to the senate he will engage them in a fight on the rights of Ndigbo.
“Of course, no one wants someone who will give them headache, and that is why they are afraid of me going to the senate.” Umeh said.
Speaking on the denial of Ekwunife the ticket of the APC, Umeh said APC was only playing safe because they know that at the end, Ekwunife will not be able to contest as they know that the court had earlier disqualified Ekwunife from the election.
“If this were a football match, Ekwunife can be said to have been given a red card, so how can someone who was given a read card from the pitch now move to the other team to play? If you are given a red card, you have to leave the pitch.”
On the recent interest of the PDP in the position, Umeh said he will go to court again if PDP is allowed to field a candidate. He added that the court only wants those who participated in the last election, so PDP can not go and bring a fresh person to contest.
“They are bringing a fresh person to contest with me, but they have to first look at what the court said. How can they go and bring a fresh candidate, who still have fresh resources to come and compete with me after I have spent a lot of power? It is not done. If they do it, you will hear from me again, because I will go to court.”
Umeh sad that even though he is coming from APGA, he will work with the other 14 senators of the south east to ensure that Igbos are given a voice in the country.
“My mission is to go and serve the Igbo people, and anyday I begin to think of something in the contrary, that day I will most probably drop dead.”
