Top officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are currently engaging each other in a deity war over alleged ongoing secret recruitment in the agency and how the Commandant General, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, shared the slot to the senior officers.
Our reporter gathered that the presidency had approved certain number of persons to be recruited into the corps in March 2016 but the new management had embarked on the process ahead the time.
Some senior officials of the corps who were not comfortable with the slot sharing arrangement which favour state commandants by the Commandant General, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, are currently posed to expose the deal.
One of the sources revealed to Journalists that while the CG gave 10 slots to each of the 36 states commandants, the DCGs who form part of his management team got one slot apiece.
Another dissatisfied officer told our correspondent that most of the names have been compiled by the management and will soon issue out appointment letters to the secret appointees.
The reliable insider said the CG Gana was doing everything possible to set up a formidable team that will fight vandalism in the country, saying the new recruit will be deployed to states for same purpose.
“A lot of things go on here that this place (NSCDC) stinks. It needs to be sanitized”, he said.
Confirming this, a statement signed by the corps spokesman, Okeh Emmanuel, earlier in the week had said the special force was in line with the corps mandate in the protection of critical infrastructure and National Assets.
According to the statement which directed the state commandants to cooperate and work in synergy with the CG’s Special Task Force assigned to their states for special operation in clamping down on illegal dealers of petroleum products, vandals, illegal refineries, illegal bunkering, Marketers involved in diversion of petroleum products.
“The task force operation is also extended to filling stations selling above approved government pump price, hoarding of products, those involved in black marketing and racketeering as well as other related crimes for prosecution in line with the Law of the federation.”
Several attempts to get the reaction of the CG proved abortive.
In his reaction, the spokesperson of the NSCDC, Mr. Emmanuel Okeh denied any rift between the CG and the DCGs. He rather stated that they have a good working relationship.
Also he denied the allegation that the Corps was recruiting. He stated that the information was not correct as the Corps has only got approval from the Presidency to recruit in March next year.
He did not state the number of personnel the Presidency has approved for the Corps for recruitment.
He said, there is no any recruitment going on at the NSCDC. We have only got approval to recruit in March next year
“We hear a lot of information about recruitment going on at the Corps, but we don’t take it serious again because we have come to the realisation that it is the desperado of people to get employment that had led to people alleging that the Corps was employment.
“We are neither employing now nor doing replacement.”
