Over 5,000 Athletes To Participate In Aba Half Marathon

Over 5, 000 national international athletes are expected to participate in the 3rd edition of Aba Half marathon scheduled to hold in Aba, tomorrow,  Sunday, Dec. 20.

247ureports.com gathered that the Aba Half Marathon competition is endorsed by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and powered by a local radio station, Magic Fm owned by the Abia state Commissioner for Works, Eziuche Ubani.,  while the 2015 edition is being sponsored by the Abia State government.

Addressing a press conference in Aba, Station manager, Magic Fm and Head of Secretariat, Aba marathon 2015, Ikechukwu Agu, flanked by members of the Local Organizing Committee; Linda Osuala, Sorochi Mark and Uche Irondi, told journalists that international athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda and Cameroun are expected to arrive Aba; adding arrangements have been concluded to ensure a successful event.

Agu who disclosed that over N14million price reward will be given out to about 20 athletes in the International/National athletes, including local ones; warned participants to avoid using performance enhancing drugs, stressing that culprits would be sanctioned.

He added that the event would help to expose young talents in the state to the global scene as they would be running alongside international athletes.

Linda Osuala, who represented the head of Media, Bonni Onogwu expressed gratitude to the state government for supporting the project and urged corporate organizations to identify with the event.

Chairman, Sub -committee on Works, Sorochi Mark disclosed that tracks mapped out for use for the 15km race are ready for use as every logistics have been put in place, stating that they have been able to sand fill areas where there are potholes.

Abia state Commissioner of sports, Hon. Chinwe Nwanganga, represented by the Director of Sports, Abia State Sports Council, Isaac O. Isaac commended the organizers for sustaining the event for three consecutive years and added that the state government would use the event to nurture raw talents discovered during the competition.
