A mild drama recently ensued during a PDP stakeholders meeting in Asaba, the capital city of Delta State. The event was specifically organized by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State to brainstorm on the way forward on how to strengthen the party and strategise for the 2019 general elections.

The PDP who is who in Delta were present including former Deputy Governors, former State Chairmen of the party, all political appointees in the state and all elected members under the umbrella of PDP. Even the South South Chairman of the party, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, was in attendance.
As usual, many speeches were delivered by different speakers who poured eulogies on the state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for his programmes for the state and the success so far recorded in the six month old administration.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Monday Igbuya, went out of his way as a legislator and passed confidence vote on the Governor in the meeting, a development which some participants viewed to be too demeaning and sycophantic of Speaker of a state house of assembly.
The participants said a state house of assembly could only pass a confidence vote on a state governor on the floor of the house and transmit same to the governor but not in a public gathering as it was on that event.
But along the line, it was time for women to appreciate the governor and a long queue of the women filed out in dances. As they danced to the stage, Chief Nkem Okwuofu, aka Agunwanyi, gave a pat on their back.
And as the music blared and the women danced, the leader of the dancing women suddenly grabbed the microphone and began shouting “Governor come and spray us, Your Excellency come and spray us”.
As the “come and spray us” continued with the governor not yielding to the request of the women and sensing that it was getting embarrassing, the state PDP Chairman, Chief Edwin Uzor, stood up to save the situation.
Uzor quickly grabbed the microphone and told the women that all the empowerment so far showered on the women in the state was enough spray from the governor on the women and as such they should be content with that.
At the statement of the PDP Chairman, it was concluded that the governor was not willing to spray them as they anticipated and the women shamefully danced out of the stage back to their seats.
