Loading ...According to available information, the federal government – comprising largely of Buhari’s men – the chief of staff, Abba Kyari, secretary to the federal government and the nephew to president Buhari had influenced the stoppage of salary payment to the Federal Judge.
This was as a result a fight Buhari’s men were waging against the federal judiciary to hand twist the Justices into a role that they had designed for them to play. The Buhari’s men had wanted the Judges to refuse assignment of bail conditions to arrested politicians from the previous administration. Particular attention was pointed to Justice Adeniyi Ademola – who granted the former National Security Adviser [NSA] relief to be released for medical treatment abroad – “that an accused is presumed innocent before trial, and that a citizen’s health is paramount before the law“.
The Judge had ordered for President Buhari to release Dasuki’s international passport but the President defied the order – and instead the President placed the home of Dasuki under siege. The Judge who was not pleased with the President’s action asserted that “my own orders will not be flouted” while calling Dasuki’s situation an “on going persecution“.
In response, Buhari’s men working in tandem with the DSS launched a covet operation against the federal judges of the federation. They began with outright harassment of accusations of working with the opposition party to subvert justice. The DSS, according to a source near the judiciary, revealed that “their communication lines were bugged” and their movements were monitored in addition to withholding their monthly salaries.
With the release of their salaries, it remains unsure if the DSS’s harassment of the Justices of the federal court have eased.
