Former Campaign Manager to the immediate past President, Femi Fani-Kayode on Wednesday said the President, Muhammadu Buhari lied about winning the battle against Boko Haram insurgents.
Fani-Kayode said rather than embarking on self appraisal, the President should focus on fighting terrorism to logical end.
The former Minister said Buhari also lied that no arms were bought by the past administration.
According to him, it was the same Buhari that eventually said past government paid cash to buy arms.
He spoke during channels TV sunrise programme stressing that former President, Goodluck Jonathan was able to reclaim about 22 local governments from the insurgents.
He said Jonathan, initially was unable to make impacts due to the refusal of western countries to sell arms to the nation.
“The President came out few days ago that no arms were bought by the previous administration. This is a lie. It is not true. If no arms were bought, I wonder how the previous government could have recovered 22 local governments in few months. Arms were used, so to claim that no arms were used is untrue.
“They said the war against Boko Haram had been won. The war has not been won. People are being killed everyday. They said the war has been won on 23rd December, 2015 but on 25th people were killed in Maiduguri, 27th people were killed in Borno, 28th people were killed in Adamawa….
“It is important for every good citizen to tell the government where they are going wrong. It has nothing to do with politics but political aspect I will say is this, they said their failings were caused by the previous administration. We won territory, they lost territory. We were winning the war, they are losing the war, and he said initially, no arms were bought then he said arms were bought with cash. This is what you call double speak.
“He also said he will persuade Boko Haram to lay down their arms, if he had won the war against terror and Boko Haram has been defeated, why is he so trying to persuade anybody to do anything? Then think it, is persuasion again the way to win a war against most deadly terrorist group according to global terrorist index,” Fani-Fakayode queried.
