The presidency Saturday denied media reports that President Muhammadu Buhari approved salary cut and austere allowances for newly appointed ministers.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in Abuja said the president has not tampered with the salaries and allowances of the ministers.
According to the Presidential aide, the salaries remain as they have been prescribed by the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission under a law passed in 2008.
His words: “This is voluntary and does not apply to Ministers and other political appointees. Reports to the effect that the President has imposed an austere package on the ministers are unknown to us.”
However, Shehu said the President and the Vice President have voluntarily offered a 50 percent salary cut.
There have been reports over plans by the president to drastically reduce take home of his cabinet.
