The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the House of Representatives over the chairmanship of the House committees seem to have taken another dimension as a group loyal to the majority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Moday took their protest to the party national secretariat.
While only 23 lawmakers were seen at the meeting, other key members of the loyalist group were said to have stayed back with the Speaker at the green chamber where the inauguration of committees was taking place.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting which lasted for over 4 hours, the Gbajabiamila’s group accused Speaker Dogara of not properly belonging to the APC caucus and treachery.
Speaking unbehalf of the loyalists Rep Musa Sarkin Adar (APC Sokoto), said “since climbing to the seat Dogara has refused to belong properly to the APC House caucus, frustrating meetings and instead romancing openly with the PDP legislators, including holding clandestine meetings to plot the downfall of our party.
“In furtherance of his treachery he has severally frustrated efforts of patriotic members who wanted to table salutary motions aimed at commending and encouraging Mr. President’s anti corruption measures taken so far.
“In the same vein, the Speaker has continued to suppress critical and dissenting voices from contributing in debates at plenary sessions while shamelessly promoting the dominance of activities of the House by hostile elements of the opposition.
“In pursuit of his tyrannical agenda, the Speaker has caused a motley crowd of his co-conspirators to amend the House Rules, to enable him suspend members at will and generally apply punitive measures to kill the well known vibrancy that has historically characterized the House of Representatives.
“Instead of promoting unity in the House he is recklessly pursuing the path of division along ethnic and faith lines.
