Ahead the tribunal judgement coming on the 10th this week in the case instituted against the victory of Senator Dino Melaye by Senator Smart Adeyemi in Kogi west senatorial district, tension seems to have caught the latter.
The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the party governorship candidate and a former governor of the state, Prince Abubakar Audu, were in a closed door meeting yesterday with Senator of the Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, at the party national secretariat over the latter’s case in tribunal.
Malaye who stormed the party Secretariat at about 2:55 was later joined by Abubakar Audu at Chief Oyegun’s office about an hour later.
Senator Smart Adeyemi is challenging the conduct and declaration of Malaye as Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District at tribunal.
Our reporter gathered that the former governor had arranged for the meeting with the party leadership so as to beg for Malaye ahead of the governorship election Kogi in Kogi state.
Melaye was Prince Audu’s campaign director in 2011 when he contested against the incumbent governor.
A source close to the meeting revealed that both Melaye and Prince Audu were worry about what would be the outcome of the judgement.
The source said: “Prince Audu actually came to beg for Melaye because he felt that if Melaye, who was his campaign director in 20011, lose his seat now, it may affect his chances of winning the governorship election.”
But when asked after closed door meeting with Chief Oyegu, which lasted for about 1hr 30minutes, Senator Maleye: “what has the party got to go with the tribunal case. This is my party national secretariat and I can come here anytime. As for the election petition, God go win”.
