Armed men weekend stormed the residence of Mr. Okungbowa Aiwerie, The Nation Newspaper’s Correspondent in Asaba, Delta State capital, carting away musical equipment, laptop, jewelries and cash.
The incident which occurred at about 2.00am is the third in a series of robbery incidents Okungbowa had suffered from the hoodlums.
Okungbowa, while narrating his ordeal in the hands of the five-man gang, said the robbers gained access into the compound by scaling the fence.
He said he heard a loud bang on his door as the hoodlums forced their way into his rented apartment.
His words: “At about 2.30am, I heard a dreadful noise. Before I could rouse myself from slumber I was accosted by the gunmen. My wife, two sons, my son’s friend and my daughter were asked to lie face down.
“I was beaten with the butt of their guns and asked to bring out all the money in my possession. I quickly complied. They ransacked the whole house taking along with them any valuable including my wife’s jewelries, money, laptop and musical sets. The operation lasted for about an hour.”
He said he refused going to incident the case at the police station, adding that nothing came out of a similar incident which occurred on the 30th of December, 2014.
According to the victim, the most painful aspect is the loss of his laptop as it is the “only work tool I rely on for sending my daily reports as a journalist.”
