In a bid to celebrate the 16th anniversary of her existence, Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Aba, Abia state, were yesterday engaged in a game of wits over the Catholic Christ the King Church,CKC, parish where the Movement was billed to hold a thanksgiving service.
As early as 6am Sunday morning, policemen and soldiers in full battle gear had blocked the entrance to the imposing CKC parish with an Armoured Personnel Carrier, ostensibly waiting for MASSOB members.
Seeing that the CKC area has been under heavy security deployment, MASSOB made a detour and held the thanksgiving service in three churches in the city
247ureports.com gathered that the police were still patrolling the CKC without knowing that MASSOB members were at three different churches within the Obohia Road area holding the thanksgiving service.
After the church service which lasted for hours, MASSOB in their traditional black attire, assembled at Ngwa Road led by the regional leader, comrade Larry Odinma, where they moved in procession to East Street, Azikiwe Road before ending at Eziukwu by Ama-Ogbonna.
In a chat with newsmen, Odinma said they got information that police had planned to stop them using CKC and they had to make alternative arrangements and held the thanksgiving service in three different churches located within the Obohia area.
He stated that they chose to hold the event at Obohia with its deplorable nature of roads which he claimed wouldn’t have allowed the police and soldiers access to the area.
MASSOB’s Assistant Director of Information, Sunny Okoroafor, told journalists that police arrested some of their members at the CKC area and called for their release.
