The All Progressive Congress (APC) has chosen Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed as chairman to lead the committee that will screen the 19 aspirants seeking the party’s gubernatorial ticket in the forthcoming Bayelsa state primary elections scheduled for 19 September.
While inaugurating the committee yesterday in Abuja, National Vice chairman of APC (South), Olusegun Oni, assured that the screening of the aspirants will be free, fair and transparent. Noting that Nigerians are now getting use to transparent primaries and that the party will continue to provide level playing field for all aspirants seeking the ticket of the party.
“We will continue conduct transparent primaries in our party as part of our contribution to deepens democracy, so that other will begin to see the wisdom in doing that. We have done that in Kogi successfully, and we have confidence in the ability of this team to do justice to all aspirants.
“We are not screening the aspirants to determine result, we are doing it to determine if all of them are qualify to contest and if they are they will all contest, we would not discriminate against any aspirant”, he said.
Responding, chairman of the committee, Hakeem Baba Ahmed commended the party for trusting them with the Job and assured that the screening of the aspirants will be free, fair and transparent.
“The road to Yenegoa Government house start today, the APC Is a party that respect the views of Nigerians, the people of Bayelsa are yearning for change. We would treat this responsibility with all the seriousness it deserve, we would submit the report on Friday morning”, he assured.
The Bayelsa State Screening Committee has Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed as Chairman while Barrister Awole Nwoko, is to serve as the secretary. Other members of the committee includes Mrs. Kemi Olaaleye, Hon Sunny Adamu, Hon Okon Eket, Hon Bashir Bolalowa, and Engr. Nonso Nnorom. The committee is expected to screen 19 out of the 20 aspirants who have obtained the nomination forms. While one one aspirants was reported to have died.
