The wave of kidnapping, Monday, spread to Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, where unknown gunmen kidnapped a senior lecturer attached to the polytechnic, Mr. Chike Gbemudu, and whisked him to an unknown destination.
Our correspondent learnt that Gbemudu was kidnapped at his residence along NDC Road, one of the busiest roads in Ozoro, headquarters of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Eye witnesses, who witnessed the speed with which he was whisked away, said the lecturer who is of the Directorate of General Studies in the polytechnic was driven away to an unknown destination by his abductors.
As at the time filing this report, no contact had been established with the kidnappers to know what action was next to take by the family members.
Efforts to reach the Divisional Police Officer of the Ozoro Police Division were abortive as at press time, but Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Celestina Kalu, confirmed the incident.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro chapter, Comrade Thomas Ojuye, has condemned the kidnap of Gbemudu, describing it as painful and pathetic.
He said the union had concluded plans to undergo a fasting and praying session for his release, disclosing that it was the second time a lecturer of the institution was being kidnapped.
