Awka Accident Leaves, Dad, Mum, Son Dead, 3 Children Orphaned

The Sunday of July 12, 2015 saw grief and sorrow along the Enugu – Onitsha Expressway as a couple and their first son died leaving behind three of their children – a four year old girl, three year old and a breastfeeding toddler boy.

The accident occurred today’s evening as the driver of a large vehicle carrying a container collapsed of the vehicle driven by the family. The father and mother along with their first son died instantly at the crash site. The three surviving three sustained injuries – and are being treated at Regina Ciali Hospital in Awka. They are expected to survive the injuries.

The bodies of the father, mother and son were deposited at the teaching hospital in Awka.

The Governor of Anambra State who was quick to visit the site of the crash and the surviving Children expressed sympathy and anger over the tragic incident. He promised to offset the bills of the orphaned children – and to offset the bills of all accident victims who are currently unable to pay their hospital bills.

While the Governor visited the three surviving children, he stated that the children were no aware that their parents and older brother have died. “The accident this evening was a tragic incident, these children have lost their parents and older brother”, said the Governor who went on to say that the driver of the large vehicle had been apprehended and detained at the police station for further investigation.

The also pledge to offset all the bill of all accident patients currently being treated – who are not able to pay their bill. “I have asked them to compile the list of those accident victims who are unable to pay their bills and send to my commissioner of health, and we will clear the bill.”

The family is reported to be from Enugu Ukwu – the Okechukwu Odinigwe family.
