The Abia state Police command has recovered a large cache of live ammunition at Ugba Na Nkata Ibeku Primary School, Bende road, Umuahia.
247ureports.com gathered that pupils at the school discovered the ammunition dump near the school playground and informed their teacher who alerted the police.
Police who were alerted to the discovery dispatched men of the Explosive Ordinances Department (EOD) who exhumed 1,233 of 7.62 long live ammunition from the dump and cleared the area.
In a related development, the police arrested a suspected Indian hemp farmer, Ibe Onwubiko at Amaorji community, Isiala Ngwa North local government area of the state.
Police sources told our correspondent that Onwubiko cultivated a farm where he planted the weed suspected to be Indian hemp at the back of his house.
Acting on a tip off, men of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) stormed the community, uprooted and recoverd the weed.
Abia state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Onyeke Ezekiel who confirmed the incidents, said the suspect admitted ownership of the farm while investigations are ongoing.
