-Acho Ihim, Ugonna Ozuruigbo emerged Speaker, Deputy Speaker respectively
The Imo State 8th House 3rd Assembly has been formally inaugurated.
Governor Okorocha made the proclamation to this effect in a well attended ceremony which took place at the renovated legislative complex on Thursday, June 11th 2015.
Addressing the large crowd who graced the occasion, Governor Okorocha said: โ There is a time to embrace office and a time to leave office. We all belong to one political family which is Imo stateโฆโ
After his speech at 11:32am, the National Anthem was sang; he swiftly sped out of the Legislative Complex with his long convoy of aides and party faithful who accompanied him to the venue.
The next step was the election of the principal officers of the House. The Clerk of the House delivered a pep talk to the legislators-elect on the procedure of electing the principal officers of the House. Thereafter, the Clerk, Barr. Chris Duru did a roll call of the members elect in order to ascertain that they were all present.
The Clerk of House now called for nomination for the office of Speaker. Hon. Ikechukwu Amuka representing Ideato South state Constituency (i.e Governor Okorochaโs native Constituency) nominated Hon. Acho Ihim for the office of Speaker. The nomination was unopposed. Hon, Acho Ihim who represents Okigwe State Constituency swiftly accepted the nomination.
At this point, the Clerk of the House announced that โHon. Acho Ihim ย has become the Speaker of the 8th Houseโ. He took his Oath of office at exactly 12:05pm.
Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo (OZB) who represents Nwangele State Constituency was nominated for the office of Deputy Speaker. The nomination was unopposed. He took the Oath of office at 12:25pm.
At 12:51pm the Oath of Office and Oath of Allegiance were administered on the members in batches of nine (9).
After they had all taken the Oath of Office and Oath of Allegiance, they held the maiden plenary session for the 8th House, 3rd Assembly. It was in this plenary session that the House was adjourned to Tuesday, 16th June, 2015.
Governor Okorocha has since congratulated the members of the House for the peaceful election through which they elected the principal officers of the House, He pledged to give them maximum support in their deliberations. He also said that the peaceful election was a sign of good things to come in Imo state.
