Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has called on Abia people living in Diaspora to invest home as a means of contributing their quota to the development of the state.
The new governor who stated this at his maiden speech to the people of the state at the Umuahia Township stadium, promised to run an inclusive government where every Abian will be carried along and added that he would welcome positive ideas capable of promoting the unity and development of the state.
“My strongest point is that I will provide the platform for every
Abian who has progressive ideas to contribute to my administration. Our common ground is to develop Abia state despite the differences in ideas and opinions.”
Ikpeazu promised to assist artisans in Aba and the state get the requisite skills and exposure that would help them to improve on their skills and produce goods that would compete at the global market.
While thanking his predecessor, Chief Theodore Orji, the state chapter of the PDP as well as the electorates for the trust and confidence reposed, vowed to work in the best interest of the state.
Earlier at the oath taking ceremony which held at the International Conference Centre, ex governor, Chief Theodore Orji in his valedictory speech, described Ikpeazu’s emergence as his successor as an enthronement of Justice, equity and fairness in the political equation of the state.
Orji said Ikpeazu election has broken the jinx of an Ukwa/Ngwa man becoming the governor of the State since its creation in 1991 and urged the new governor to build on the legacies laid by his administration.
He urged Ikpeazu to see the entire Abia state as his
constituency and strive to sustain the peace and unity of the state by running an all inclusive government.
The former governor thanked the people of the state for their support throughout his tenure and urged them to extend same to his successor.
He enjoined his political opponents to put the past
behind them and join hands with the new governor to move the State to the next level.
