The parallel governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in 2013 governorship election in Anambra state, Dr. Chike Obidigbo has appealed to Nigerians to accept President Goodluck Jonathan’s apology because it is an expression of humanity and humility.
The APGA parallel governorship candidate, who is still contesting his acclaimed victory in the 2013 Governorship election in Anambra State at the Supreme Court, said he believe that the Nigerian democratic process is still on trial and had not achieved the desired objectives.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s swearing-in cum handover government to the APC President elect, a chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the parallel governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in 2013 governorship election in Anambra state Dr. Chike Obidigbo has called on the incoming government of General Mohammadu Buhari (Rtd) to give priority attention to energy generation and enthronement of law and order, this according to APGA Chieftain would go a long way fixing back Nigeria in the part of growth and development.
Dr. Obidigbo who spoke to the 247ureports.com in an interview at his country home, Umunya, Oyi Council Area of Anambra state said; “Nigeria should stop apportioning blames and allow the president elect to be focused and properly grinded to tackle the enormous socio-economic problems facing the country”.
According to him; “the way and manner democracy is being practiced in Nigeria has not in any way provided the needed governance that touches the heart of the citizens of the country and by extension, the international community”.
In his words, “if democracy is practiced as defined; ‘government of the people, by the people, for the people’, it has not been demonstrated as having been practiced for the benefit of the people of Nigeria, the resultant effect is that the cardinal objectives of the country’s nascent democracy is at variance with the wishes and aspirations of our founding fathers”.
He maintained that since the inception of democratic, governance in the country in all the past successive administration had practiced oligarchy system of government and that has made it impossible for the system to thrive.
“General Mohammadu Buhari should look at the democratic structure and redefined it to suit the wishes and aspirations of Nigerians. This is because a country where leaders lie to the people with impunity, loot the nations treasure with impunity, take bribe and brake laws and order, is not yet ripe for democratic rule, a clear indication that there is no hope for the growth of the economy and social survival” Obidigbo stated.
“Nigerians should also sympathies with General Mohammadu Buhari because what he is coming to inherit is an odium that he never created”.
It is also well established and acknowledged by the majority of Nigerians that in spite of these obvious failures, there is the spurious claim of an economy that is on the rise. But unfortunately, the acclaimed rise is not predicted on any known or appreciable economic policy, with capacity to impact on the productive sectors of the economy.
Adding that successful economy must be home groomed, he was of the view that the economy must have its root with the people and it must be fully supported by the government, especially through the provision of critical infrastructure and enabling operating environment.
“I quite agree that corruption is today a global problem, but the case in Nigeria is quite alarming and because civilization is all about law and order, any country accorded due respect to it is bound to grow economically, socially and politically and even those who may bridge the law do so with fear at the back of their mind, but in a country where impunity, disobedient to the law and order is part of governance, there is absolutely no fear and it has gone invasive and viral in Nigeria”.
The most obvious problem Buhari will face and must overcome to bring back the desired change was to enthrone law and order, the cradle of civilization, so that anybody who want to exhibit any form of impunity or misdemeanor will have the law to contend with, no matter how highly placed in the society. That is the only way Buhari would fight corruption and bring back sanity and good governance in Nigeria and succeed.
Secondly, no modern civilization can achieve any meaningful social and Economic growth without enough energy generation. And any country that pays lip service to indigenous productive sector can never achieve anything good. In my own humble opinion, I have no doubt in my mind that the entire democratic process since 2007 in Nigeria is a waste.
“So as long as we remain confronted with these serious energy challenges, we cannot tackle unemployment and crime.
There is no doubt that the president elect General Mohammadu Buhari will fund himself in a collision course with those who will stand decisive, when he opens up his campaign against corruption, but he should not throw his national obligation and his oath of allegiance to Nigerians and world at large to selfish and personal aggrandizement. He should be strong and resolute because the majority of Nigerian will stand behind him to succeed.
