The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed five of the six nominees forwarded to it by Gov Willie Obiano as commissioners.

The nominees that included the incumbent Speaker of the House, Mrs Chinwe Nwebili, representing Ogbaru 11 constituency were confirmed except Mr Mark Okoye who was dropped for being under the age of 30years. Some of those who scaled the Assembly’s screening were Messrs Mrs Amaka Ilobi, Dr Mary Nwogu, Frank Ofor, and Afam Mbanefo.

Their refusal to confirm Mark Okoye was premised on the ground that he was below 30 years of age contrary to the provision of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

A member of the House and lawyer, Mr Chugbo Enwezor,(Onitsha North 1)Constituency, drew the attention of the House to a section of the 1999 Constitution as amended which stipulates that a person under 30 years cannot be appointed into such office by the governor.

Also another member, Ebele Obi cautioned that his confirmation could bring the integrity of the House to disrepute if someone takes the matter to court.

Again, apparently in an effort to shield attention away from it, the curriculum vita of Okoye was found missing from the file of documents presented to the House.
