Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Leyii Kwane has expressed shock and disappointment at the manner the 7th Legislature ended its legislative business in the state.

A valedictory statement from the Office of the Deputy Speaker quoted Mr. Kwane saying the so called valedictory session of the 7th Assembly that would have ended in glamour, shamefully came to an end within minutes and failed to address some issues the executive arm could not address as it bows out.

The Deputy Speaker who was not present at the sitting, frowned at the failure of 17 Legislators that attended Thursday’s brief plenary to address the face-off that ensued between them and aggrieved members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASSAN), wondering where history would place the 17 Lawmakers.

The statement further charged the incoming 8th Assembly to learn from the mistakes of the 7th Assembly and urged Rivers People to persevere despite the disappointing attitude displayed by some public officials.

Mr. Leyii Kwane while regretting that the 7th Assembly could not even resolve the welfare needs of the PASSAN members that have been owed allowances since 2014, prayed that Rivers State will never again go through the trying times it is facing in the transition from the 7th to 8th republic.
