..Demand cancellation of election
Scores of youths from the 12 local government areas in Orlu Senatorial Zone of Imo State stormed Owerri the state capital in a peaceful protest against the conduct of the national assembly election in the area which was said to have been won by Senator Hope Uzodinma.
The youths who numbered over 300 from different communities in the area, carried placards with different inscriptions condemning the rigging that characterized the election.
The protesting youths matched from Orlu Road to all the streets in the state capital and to the INEC office in Owerri where they addressed journalists.
Speaking on behalf of the youths, Comrade Emeka Oguaju said they were in Owerri to protest the manipulation of the election by Senator Hope Uzodinma, who they accused of hijacking electoral materials especially the result sheets at gun point without allowing elections to hold in most of the places.
He said the people of Orlu Zone actually rejected Uzodinma as their senator through the ballot but were shocked to notice that the senator personally wrote results and submitted to the INEC.
“We all know that there was no election in Oru East and Oguta but results flew from those areas the next day declaring Senator Uzodinma winner.
“All we are saying is that Senator Uzodinma is not a good market for Orlu Zone that is worth more than a state. He is one of the people that brought bad image to the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan and this is the more reason why we rejected him during the election but he manipulated results to return back to the senate”, Oguaju said.
He called for the cancellation of the election or for the INEC to go back to count results recorded at various elections booths as that was the true testimony of the people’s votes.
The youths also demanded a fresh election for the people to determine who truly should represent them.
They insisted that they rejected any fake results used by INEC to declare Uzodinma winner because he did not win any LGA in the area.
