Government Of Imo State
Press Release
Governor of Imo State and the Chairman of APC Governors’ Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan over the high level of Political maturity which he exhibited by conceding defeat and calling to congratulate General Mohammadu Buhari, the APC Presidential Candidate who won last Saturday’s election.
Governor Okorocha said, for the incumbent President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to have taken up the courage to call General Buhari to congratulate him over his victory against him spoke volume and equally showed that the future of the country’s democracy is very very bright.
The Imo State Governor also said that President Jonathan has also made history by being the first sitting Nigeria President who not only conceded victory to his major opponent who won the election, but openly congratulated him without betraying any emotion.
The Governor however advised the President to be mindful of the antics of some of the PDP bigwigs close to him and that he should not allow himself to be forced or coerced into taking any action or actions that would diminish all he has gained in the eyes of Nigerians and the International community for conceding victory to General Buhari and congratulating him.
He said the ever Power-hungry elements in the PDP would definitely stop at nothing to ensure that all the accolades and commendations Mr. President has received for accepting defeat and congratulating Buhari would be submerged by telling him to take certain steps most patriotic Nigerians do not expect from him this time.
His words “You know some of these PDP people love Power more than they love this country. They would stop at nothing to pursue Power. They have already come up with certain plans or options including that of Court action for Mr. President to take. And when the President listens to them, all the congratulations and commendations he has got for conceding defeat and congratulating Buhari would evaporate. It is my candid advice that he should not listen or take the advice of his PDP men this time. He should only be guided by his conscience”.
The APC governors’ forum chairman said the world is still watching Nigeria even after the last weekend’s poll to see what the key players are upto, adding that the country, Nigerians and President Jonathan would stand to gain more if Mr. President continues to act in the same spirit with which he admitted defeat and congratulated his major challenger in the election.
He also advised Nigerians to continue to pray for President Jonathan for God’s guidance so that he would not fall victim of the over ambitiousness of some Powerful PDP leaders.
