Eight governorship Candidates of different political parties in Borno state and the hundreds of their supporters alongside 17 House of Assembly Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have dump their ambitions and back the governor Kashim Shettima led All Progressives Congress (APC) for Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.
The governorship candidates had storm the Borno state government House on Wednesday where they unanimously withdraw their candidature to support incumbent governor Kashim shettima for a second term in office.
Speaking in their individual capacities the the candidates said the unprecedented achievements of the Governor Shettima led – administration so far have convinced them to concede and back the governor for a second term in office
Chairman of the governorship candidates forum Rufai Monguno said hundreds of their supporters across the 27 local government areas of the state have begun massive campaign to ensure that governor Shettima is returned elected.
” our members have started campaigning for governor Kashim shettima’s second term bid, we will not leave any stone unturned in our collective quest to canvass for votes for governor shettima come Apri 11 elections ” Monguno said.
Governor Shettima who was highly elated with the voluntary withdrawal and unanimous support commended the governorship candidates for their action and promised to continue the good work if reelected as governor.
” I want to thank you most sincerely by voluntarily conceding to support me ; conceding grounds is no mean feat. It is obvious that we are beginning to positive change in our democracy” shettima said
Governor also disclose that 17 house of Assembly Candidates of the PDP have already declared to withdraw their candidature and support the APC and governor Shettima in particular ahead of the governorship elections.
Meanwhile the 8 governorship Candidates also present their withdrawal letter with the party letter head to the governor and also promised to take same to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
The governorship candidates who were present at the meeting include Rufai Monguno ACP, Abu Sakwa CPP, Ajia Bukar Auno APGA, Ahmed Kasim Amin PDC Babagana K Musa PPA Ahmed Alh Bulama ACPN, Abba Modu SDP, Baba Malla Bakomi LP, and Joel Joseph a running mate of Accord party governorship cadidate who stood for the governorship Candidate, Samuel Osiri
