A non governmental organization Adamawa Youth initiative has made a
plea for the establishment of a North East Development Commission
(NEDC).
This if done will enable for the rapid development of the North East
region which has been ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgents.
At a press conference at the N.U.J Press centre Yola on Monday, leader
of the group Hamisu Idris Medugu disclosed that.
According to Hamisu, the lives and aspirants of the peoples have been
broken and lost.
“The North East region is now populated by mostly orphans, widows, the
old and most vulnerable hence the need for a swift provision of basic
social safety measures”, they said.
The group disclosed that other measures include reconstruction and
re-integration to make them get back to society.
“Like other citizens including those in the United States of America,
there was the strong need to create the commission for rapid
development of Northern Nigeria especially the North East region
similar to what was done for the Niger Delta region”, the group
stressed.
They urged the government to as a matter of priority immediately
reconstruct all damaged bridges, places of worship, schools, hospitals
and houses in order to reassure the people of the region that there
was indeed change in the country.
