A 38 year old man one Bobby Kotri has been arrested for being in
possession of 85 (eighty five) permanent voters cards (PVCs).
He was arrested by soldiers at a road block in Song the local
government headquarters on Tuesday night following a search.
The suspect who was paraded by the Army at the 23 Armoured brigade in
Yola said he was given the cards by the sole Administrator of
Garta/Futu Development Area in Michika Local Government area of the
state.
According to him, the administrator one Jimmy Zira directed him to go
and distribute the cards to their people.
The suspect who claimed that owners of the said PVCs were displaced
persons are scattered in the mountainous areas of the locality but
added that he knows all of them.
Bobby Kotri said the owners were displaced from their homes by members
of the Boko Haram sect.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been handed over to the police C.I.D for
further interrogation.
Contacted, the INEC office in Adamawa State categorically said no
individual no matter his or her status has the authority to have PVC’s
in their custody.
Public affairs Manager of INEC in the state Mrs. Rifkatu Duku such
possession amounts to criminality.
Asked to comment, Police image maker DSP Othman Abubakar said he will
formally comment after full investigation but confirmed that the
military handed over the suspect to them.
The sole administrator of the said development area could be located
when our man tried to do so but efforts are on to locate him.
